Alenia Aeronautica autonomously developed the Sky-X unmanned demonstration and research platform. The Sky-X has performance similar to a fighter and aims to secure technologies for use in the fast growing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) field. In May 2005 it became the first European-designed UAV in the over one ton class to fly.
